{"id":1,"date":"2010-09-23T04:40:45","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T04:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/kpcave\/?p=1"},"modified":"2010-09-23T19:27:54","modified_gmt":"2010-09-24T03:27:54","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/kpcave\/2010\/09\/23\/hello-world\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s that weird blue stuff?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[youtube]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FRf35wCmzWw[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HXz9OcnRBYY[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Alas!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A tampon commercial that knows what\u2019s up (no pun intended)!\u00a0 The first time I saw this ad on TV I felt oddly liberated.\u00a0 Finally, an ad that demonstrates tampons realistically, as opposed to the fruity corporate attempt to candy-coat a woman\u2019s least favourite time of the month.\u00a0 The more I think about it I wonder who Kotex\u2019s competitors, such as Tampax or Playtex, are targeting their ads towards. Pre-pubescent girls are really the only age\u00a0group who\u00a0I think would possibly fall for these candy-coated commercials because they have yet to experience the wonders of Mother Nature.\u00a0 However, as soon as the storm hits, the fantasies over, and reality sets in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kotex\u2019s clever campaign to \u201cBreak the Cycle\u201d targets the consumers that actually use their products!\u00a0 Their ads don\u2019t shy away from the topic; instead, they poke fun at the ridiculous taboo that a woman\u2019s period has become in the advertising of their competitors.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cBreak the Cycle\u201d is sure to win over a new generation of tampon wearing teenage girls but I\u2019m not so sure of the affect it will have on the already converted.\u00a0 By that I mean brand loyalty.
