Student-Centered Learning

With student centered learning, the focus is on student engagement and active learning by encouraging collaboration between teachers and students. Rather than lecturing, I structure my teaching around the individualized learning needs of each student. I often allow students to use digital technology such as i-Pads when researching their topics, and choose subjects that they can relate to and apply what they are learning to real world situations.

Learning about the different ecosystems, students were able to showcase their artistic talents by creating 3-D images of a species and their habitat. To further their knowledge, they created a food web using yarn, to represent several interconnected food chains. Students learned the difference between carnivores, herbivores and producers as well as detrivores and decomposers.
