Beverly mentioned in her blog post, Coca Cola’s Seductive Packaging, about Coke’s tactical reinvention of packaging to brand their product in conjunction with special dates and occasions, such as the Olympics. This got me thinking as to how certain products are now expected to change their packaging to match certain special events. The biggest example of this are chocolates during Valentine’s Day.
You may have noticed that since Valentine’s Day is coming up, stores like Safeway or Shoppers are filled with heart decorations, stuffed animals, and of course, aisles full of delicious chocolate treats. Since chocolates have become a go-to gift for such an occasion, guys usually pick chocolates with the special packaging -something that acknowledges such an occasion and something that will show their Valentine how appreciated and loved they are. Because of this, chocolate companies always redesign their packaging or create new promotions specifically tailored for Valentine’s day. It is a must for chocolate companies to take advantage of this special occasion and keep up with their competitors if they want to be considered as a special Valentine’s treat.
Here’s some examples of Valentine’s Day packaging:
