I live and work on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation and Ta’an Kwach’an Council, which is located in Whitehorse, Yukon (north of B.C., East of Alaska).
I’ve been an elementary teacher since 2008 (all grades K-3). I’ve been teaching Kindergarten for 5 years. It satisfies my need to be silly, laugh, sing, and play all day! I completed a Forest & Nature School certification this past year, so we spend lots of time exploring in our nearby forest school area. I’d never had aspirations to be a teacher (pop star, aerobics instructor, actor, interior designer… SURE!), but never a teacher. I’m happy I chose teaching since it’s given me not only an awesome lifestyle, but also allows me to incorporate many of my interests.
Teaching remotely in Spring 2020 took me in the direction of the MET program. It’s been enjoyable and challenging to be a student again. My husband, Gary makes a great “study buddy”! This is my 6th course.
Gary and I enjoy hiking and biking with our dog, Jazz. We sing and perform together (Gary, not the dog) at a variety of functions around Whitehorse (full band, duets, karaoke, DJ’ing). We joined a pop choir group in the fall.
Procrastination, however, messes with me – I’d like to learn more sign language, start taking tutorials in French or Spanish, get back to using the home gym, and learn to play a drum kit.
I’ve never set up a blog, so wish me luck! Looking forward to this course and discussions with all of you.
