Prior to reading any definitions or information, my initial thoughts on defining terms are:
Text: is the use of symbols in its simplest written form to communicate. I also see text as being part of an oral language. Text can be both written and oral communication.
Technology: the tools being used to make text communication more clear and efficient. Examples such as: using a stick on rock faces or in sand; graphite and ink on paper; printing press; and digital age with use of printers, faxes, phones, computers.
When I teach technology to my students, I consider not only the go-to version of technology that we think of immediately (digital tech), but I also speak about technology in everything that we use, whether it’s scissors, paper, glue stick. I talk also about old and new technologies – the difference between phones past and present. I talk about First Nations ancestors and the tools they used as technology for survival.
