On average, 41.90 kg of meat is consumed per person per year. The juicy, succulent and tender meat that melts in your mouth would be assumed impossible to duplicate but world-famous chef David Chang from Impossible Foods has created a meatless meat that defied all odds. In an evolving consumers’ market and numbers of veganism/vegetarians rising, Impossible Foods creates a platform which can thrive in the current and future food market. The innovative meatless meat is turning heads with it’s healthy and economical stance and is now a fierce competitor of the meat and alternative meat industries.

The meatless meat has the same visual appearance as real meat with a glazed brown on the surface and a juicy pink on the inside. The “meat” is made entirely from wheat, coconuts, potatoes and heme. Heme is an iron-containing compound that is part of hemoglobin, which gives off the bloody meat flavour. Impossible Foods, the company of the veggie burger has raised US $182 million and has been invested by Bill Gates and Google. This revolutionary meat is going to hit the markets spectacularly as it is as good as the original and almost all the greenhouse gases produced by the livestock industry could be eliminated which is a positive impact on the Earth. On the contrary, producing real meat is harmful to the Earth and also inefficient even with modern factory farming as production takes up a great sum of space (1/3 of the world’s cropland is to produce feed for livestock).

Impossible Foods business structure has a strong foothold on the constantly changing dynamics of our market through their innovative new meat that can be positively eaten by meat lovers and vegans which molds them into a strong potential leader in the competitive food industry. In my eyes, I see our future greener with less consumption of cows and more modified plant based foods being the primarily consumed food as the meatless meat tastes as good is now possible and people all over the world can taste meaty flavours either through plants or cows.

Word Count: 347

Main Article:

Brownwell, Claire. “The End of Meat?
