LinkedIn is a professional networking site that is useful for creating connections and marketing yourself. Based on the requirements for assignment 2:2, below is a summary of the best practices to use LinkedIn effectively.
- Completing your profile. LinkedIn prioritizes complete profiles; if an employer looks up a job title you are more likely to be found if the profile is completed.
- Using an effective headline. An informative snippet that shows up in searches and tells recruiters what you are up to instantly.
- Creating a concise summary. The summary should include your professional experience, goals, and specialities in your industry.
- Using popular keywords. A list of specific skills using popular keywords giving search engines a keyword-rich list to associate with you.
- Connecting with people you know. Connecting with classmates or colleagues is a reliable way to make connections with those who know you best.
- Connecting with others in the field. Sending personalized invites to recruiters or managers in your specific field can create connections with those who can help you grow professionally.
- Asking for Recommendations. A positive review related to a job and are more meaningful than endorsements; offering an explanation about why you received a reference.
- Asking for skill endorsements. An easy way to recognize your skill set and highlight important skills. The more endorsements you receive the more credible your profile looks.
- Joining LinkedIn Groups. Joining groups helps create new connections. Interacting with the group discussions or postings demonstrates your interest in the business.
- Keeping an active profile. Demonstrate your expertise by actively writing or sharing posts and articles or commenting at least a few times a week.
