About Me

My name is Kuol Akuechbeny, and I am running to be your next AMS VP Finance and a Student Senator.  I would like to implement a platform that will benefit all UBC students. My objectives are aimed towards student’s professional development and engagement, making the clubs and Constituencies Financial operations easy and sustainable, and supporting AMS permanent staff to streamline AMS businesses.

I was born in South Sudan and grew up and completed my high school education in Nairobi, Kenya. I resettled in Canada through the WUSC (World University Service of Canada) student-funded refugee program. It has been a great privilege for me to be part of this supportive community, which has allowed me to develop notable leadership skills and enhance personal competencies.

For more than three years, I have been actively involved with the AMS. Currently, I am the AMS University Affairs Commissioner and the President of the WUSC-UBC. I was formerly the AMS Financial Administrator, managing over 400 financial operations. Through these positions, I have worked closely with AMS club leaders and students across UBC and have learned about the challenges facing them, inspiring me to run for this position.
