UBC Farm Visit 3: Organics – A Healthy Soil Ecosystem

Today at the UBC Farm we learned about healthy soil. We identified the major components of soil including air, water, minerals, humus and living organisms. We learned how to care for soil by composting our garden waste and using paper and leaf mulch to protect the soil during the winter. We identified collaborators and competitors  in the garden and made wire worm traps with potatoes to protect our spring crops. The kitchen crew made delicious pumpkin muffins from pumpkins grown on the farm.
