Weeks 11 and 12
Great Plant Picks. (2015). http://www.greatplantpicks.org. Retrieved December 2015.
This website is a good source for basic information such as hardiness zone, plant size, and growing requirements. I would use the site again, but only as a last resort, since some pieces of information are missing, such as family name. Other sources are more complete with a more readable layout.
Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. (2015). http://www.wildflower.org. Retrieved December 2015.
This website has a native plant database with useful pictures and information laid out in a simple format. Unfortunately, the native plants apply to Texas, as it is a University of Texas at Austin extension. I would probably not use this site again since there are other comprehensive sites that are more applicable to us living in Vancouver.
Eckenwalder, J. E. (2009). Conifers of the World: The Complete Reference. Portland, OR: Timber Press.
This book contains 545 species of conifer trees and shrubs with up to date descriptions and information on them all. The writing style is geared towards botanists and horticulturalists, which means it is specific and detailed. It is incredibly comprehensive and I would use it again and again when researching conifers.
