{"id":2,"date":"2009-01-08T16:27:46","date_gmt":"2009-01-09T00:27:46","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-01-09T16:35:39","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T00:35:39","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/last201\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LAST201 \u201cPopular Culture in Latin America\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spring 2009<br \/>\nTuTh, 2pm-3:30pm, Swing 105<\/p>\n<p><strong>description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The culture of everyday life, both rural and urban: issues of identity, popular memory, resistance, negotiation, as expressed through ritual, crafts, the body, social movements, films, music, and literature.<\/p>\n<p>Set texts:\u00a0 You will have to buy a course reader that contains the set texts.<\/p>\n<p>Blog: You will write a c. 400 word response to each week\u2019s reading on a blog (either one you already maintain, or one you set up specifically for the class); your entries are to be tagged \u201clast201.\u201d\u00a0 Blog entries must be ready by Tuesday morning.\u00a0 You will also comment on at least two other students\u2019 blogs by Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment: One mid-term examination (25%), one 3-4 page review paper (20%), and one 4-6 page final paper due at the end of the semester (35%).\u00a0 Blog entries and comments, plus attendance and participation, will constitute the final 20% of your grade.<\/p>\n<p>Note that if you miss more than three classes over the semester without written justification (such as a doctor\u2019s note), your grade will be affected.\u00a0 And if you come to class unprepared, i.e. without having done the reading or written your blog, you may be marked down as absent.<\/p>\n<p>Course convenor: Jon Beasley-Murray (jon.beasley-murray@ubc.ca).\u00a0 His office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12pm to 1:30pm, in Buchanan Tower 808.\u00a0 Be in touch if you have queries or problems.\u00a0 Deal with problems when they arise; don\u2019t just hope they\u2019ll go away!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAST201 \u201cPopular Culture in Latin America\u201d Spring 2009 TuTh, 2pm-3:30pm, Swing 105 description The culture of everyday life, both rural and urban: issues of identity, popular memory, resistance, negotiation, as expressed through ritual, crafts, the body, social movements, films, music, and literature.
