Bio

My name is Laura Di Pietro and I was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. I am in my third year at UBC Okanagan studying psychology. I began my journey at UBC Okanagan enrolled in science and quickly realized that it was just not for me. In my second year, I switched to arts and have taken other courses such as sociology that have sparked my interest in issues that our society faces today.  I am specifically interested in either working in the rehabilitation process or with children. I have been intrigued by every psychology course I have been able to take and would love to pursue a career in the field. I have worked in a daycare since the beginning of high school, as it started as a summer job. After my first summer working there, I knew instantly that working with children was something I was interested in. I have had experience working with children from different backgrounds and family situations, as well as with disabled children which was extremely eye-opening for me. A career that I enjoy and that allows me to help others would be my dream job, and after working with children it solidified my decision to begin studying psychology.

Outside of school, my interests are dance, music, and fitness. I was in dance for 14 years and trained every day, eventually becoming a competitive dancer. I enjoy being outside since I grew up in the Yukon and am constantly surrounded by nature.
