Videos are the new photos

Videos are the new photos by LaurenChimko

I stumbled across this blog post that justifies something I find so very important in today’s digital marketing landscape: Why Online Video is the Future of Content Marketing.

A lot of us perceive digital marketing to be a combination of a website, some social media accounts, and perhaps an e-commerce page. Videos, however, allow us to play with the idea of more traditional marketing. I am much more likely to understand content that is communicated through a video versus a webpage full of text. Bonus points if the video keeps me entertained. Now consider a traditional TV commercial…By distributing a video online we as marketers are able to get much more creative and customize our message (not to mention all of the specific targeting opportunities we can find online).

I would recommend watching through the videos posted below as well as browsing through some others posted by your favourite brands. Consider what length, style and platforms might be best for your own company.

Need enough time to tell a full story? Create a short movie.
(Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion film for Fendi)

Want to get right to the point? Make a 6 second Vine.
(See Samsung’s Vine to promote phone features here)

Want to get the viewer involved? Make use of digital space and technology.
(See Honda’s “The Other Side” video here)

According to Cisco, video will account for 69% of all consumer internet traffic by 2017. This is a MASSIVE amount of information being sent through video – an opportunity that brands and businesses both big and small should be conscious of as they develop and update their online strategy.
