{"id":138,"date":"2009-06-04T15:32:19","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T23:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/leapauthors\/?p=138"},"modified":"2010-11-10T10:56:05","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T18:56:05","slug":"page-warps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/leapauthors\/page-warps\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 5 Reasons for Page \u201cWarps\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve all had occasion to edit or create a new page only to find that there is some warped weirdness in the way that it looks when it is published.\u00a0 Here are some of the reasons for this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Forgetting to close a tag in your HTML<\/strong>.\u00a0 HTML tags need an opener like &lt; &gt; and a closer like &lt;\/&gt; . If your page doesn&#8217;t display a side bar or looks funky in some way &#8211; check for this error in your html view.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Forgetting to select a page parent<\/strong> from the drop down list on the left side of your editing screen called Attributes: Parent. Select the drop down and scroll to choose the page that is one level above yours (the page that yours fits directly under in the navigation).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Including comment code<\/strong>. For example\u2014if there is any &#8220;comment code&#8221; in your post\u00a0 &lt;&#8212;something like this&#8212;&gt;, it can create a problem.\u00a0 If you see a comment like this, just delete it or ask us to have a look.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Importing heading tags from another source<\/strong> like &lt;h2&gt; &lt;\/h2&gt;. These heading specifications will be different for our CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) and may display too large and ugly. Just remove them if your text looks weird.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No line breaks<\/strong> &lt;br&gt; &lt;\/br&gt;. WordPress tends to strip out the line breaks. This can be problematic when you need space between an image and text.\u00a0 If you are having a problem with this.
