Let’s talk digital media. Producing it, viewing it, sharing it.
The internet is an invaluable resource for digital media. If it’s on a website and you can interact with it to any extent, it is a type of digital media. You could spend endless lives experiencing the digital media produced by others, or you could spend it producing your own. There is always room for you online; there are communities and discussions for nearly every interest and topic.
Producing digital media is a skill that can only become more and more relevant, and your digital fluency and literacy can be huge assets to your future. That is not to say, however, that there are no pitfalls or trappings of living more and more in a digital world. Take a picture, write an essay, make a “how to” video, send an email. You’re producing and using digital media.
Viewing digital media occurs every time you pull out your smart phone, flip open your laptop, or read a text through your smart watch. There are hundreds of sites that you can use to view digital media: Google News, CBC, CNN, reddit, YouTube, Vimeo, wimp, imgur, flickr, Instagram, Twitter, and so many more.
