Welcome to our English 301 Technical writing online class. In every aspect of our professional lives, technical communication is essential in conveying and understanding our thoughts, observations, collaboration and problem-solving. This course introduces the students to technical writing through course readings and activities. The instructor aims to provide the students with opportunities to practice and perfect the students’ writing skills in various professional contexts. Opportunities for engagement with classmates in an online discussion, peer review, and analysis of documents produced for business, professional, and technical contexts are provided by this course. This class will also encourage and assist the students in reflecting on their writing and developing self-editing skills and direct them to the valuable resources available through UBC’s Career Services unit. Developing and designing an online portfolio and a professionally designed website that presents the students’ resumes will be the culminating projects of this course.
While I was working with my family’s fast-food company, I had always been fascinated with productivity. I love observing and doing things that enhance productivity. Reading through the course objectives and projects, I can see that this course satisfies our academic requirements and will also help us through our entire professional life. As a former caterer, I appreciate the importance of building a good website and writing polite and concise emails. As a future nutrition professional and a chef, I have always wanted to blog but never found time. I have observed that succeeding in almost any profession nowadays requires specific job skills and communication skills. This course will help keep my writing skills current, which will help me succeed whether I decide to work for a company or build a business after I graduate.
