{"id":2,"date":"2015-01-27T17:27:07","date_gmt":"2015-01-27T17:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lebillon\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2020-04-21T10:54:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T17:54:04","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lebillon\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Philippe Le Billon (MBA Paris, PhD Oxford) is a Professor at the University of British Columbia with the Department of Geography and the Liu Institute for Global Issues.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining UBC, I was a Research Associate with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), with fieldwork in Angola, Cambodia, Colombia, Iraq, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and the former-Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Philippe Le Billon CV\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lebillon\/files\/2015\/01\/CV_lebillon.pdf\">Please click on this link to download a PDF copy of my CV.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Research Interests<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>political ecology<\/li>\n<li>natural resource governance<\/li>\n<li>international development<\/li>\n<li>violence and space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am interested in\u00a0relations between environment, development and security, with an empirical focus on <span class=\"Apple-style-span\">primary commodities<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Using a political ecology approach, I investigate socio-environmental relations and commodity networks linking spaces of exploitation, consumption and regulation. Such work engages with the spatiality, materiality and socio-natural construction of &#8216;resources&#8217;, their political economy and socio-environmental impacts, as well as associated development challenges and conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>This research also relates to policy reforms in resource governance as well as international development and trade frameworks, notably to reduce environmental impacts, improve the well-being of populations, and increase the accountability of governments and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>I also work on the political economy of war and reconstruction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Philippe Le Billon (MBA Paris, PhD Oxford) is a Professor at the University of British Columbia with the Department of Geography and the Liu Institute for Global Issues.
