Both eBay and Amazon launched their new version of mobile apps earlier this week. It enables users to scan the barcode of the product that they want to buy in the shop and compare its prices with what is available on eBay/Amazon’s website or its merchants.
eBay has integrated the buying and selling processes into a new version of its main iPhone app and added RedLaser barcode scanning capability to help buyers comparison-shop and to help sellers list items for sale. Since the launch of its first mobile application in July 2008, nearly 30 million items have been bought or sold using eBay mobile apps.
Amazon.com meanwhile announced a new price comparison app for the iPhone that allows customers to compare in-store prices with prices of items on Amazon.com. Customers use the app to scan a barcode, snap a picture, or say or type a product name to receive instant prices for that item on Amazon.com and from other online merchants. Customers will then have the ability to purchase the item with one-click and have it delivered directly to their doorstep.
