Fresh Choice Kitchens is the Community Kitchen Program of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS).
GVFBS is a non-profit organization that provides food aid and services to over 28,000 people weekly within Greater Vancouver. GVFBS centers its operations out of a main warehouse in East Vancouver supplying over 8 million pounds of food annually to 15 depots located throughout Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster. Of the 28,000 people who rely on food from the GVFBS, 10,000 of those people are children, and the other people that the GVFBS generally assists are: “working poor, single parents, new immigrants, and elderly that are living off fixed incomes”. GVFBS also partners with hundreds of agencies that provide meals including: community centers, shelters, drop-in centers, mobile food delivery for youth, and school food programs.

Fresh Choice K itchens is an educational resource program that provides training and support to community facilitators throughout British Columbia through a “train-the-trainer” model. With the goal to promote independence for community kitchens, Fresh Choice Kitchens offers a variety of services, including: regularly scheduled train-the-trainer workshops, support to individuals and community groups who would like like to start or maintain community kitchens, advocacy for community kitchens and food security, and many more.
