{"id":6,"date":"2013-08-19T17:40:43","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T17:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfs350project01\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2013-10-08T16:48:54","modified_gmt":"2013-10-08T23:48:54","slug":"sample-page-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfs350project11\/sample-page-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In April 2012, University of British Columbia (UBC) Land and Food Systems (LFS)\u00a0students audited UBC Food Services (UBCFS) snack vending machines against BC\u2019s \u201cHealthier\u00a0Choices Vending Machine Policy\u201d (HCVMP), and found a number of discrepancies (Ma, V., et\u00a0al. 2012). A major contributing component of an unhealthy diet is the overconsumption of highly\u00a0processed foods, many of which can be found in vending machines: 59% of campus offerings\u00a0were categorized as \u201cnot recommended\u201d (Ma, V., et al. 2012). Using these results, the new and\u00a0healthier \u201cGage Snack Vending Model\u201d (hereafter referred to as GSVM) was negotiated.<\/p>\n<p>Group 26 will be taking steps to assess the current healthy snacks offered in UBC vending machines under the Gage Snack Vending Model (GSVM). This research is being conducted in order to understand what aspects of the GSVM work versus what aspects need work, and to incorporate community feedback into its design. Our aim is to find a working compromise between consumer preferences and what healthy options the vendor is able to bring in.
