Submit Your Feedback: Improving Campus Safety

Standard

Background

In 2013, a series of sexual assaults perpetrated by one suspect generated both concern and a community conversation around campus safety. A working group was struck to take stock of the issue and prepare a report with recommendations. The University is now looking for your input before determining how to take further action.

About the Campus Safety Working Group

The UBC Vancouver campus is a unique environment. It is significantly different from many other university campuses in Canada, most notably in terms of its size, location, and the wide range of different communities that study, work and live on campus. In establishing this Working Group, we recognize UBC has been and continues to be one of the safest university campuses in North America. The safety of our community at UBC is of paramount importance and recommendations are made to enhance safety and security on campus.

Recommendations are made in the following areas:

  • Cameras on campus
  • Promoting a safe, caring, and respectful campus community
  • University and RCMP partnership
  • Communication tools
  • Mobility and visibility on campus

The Working Group acknowledges the students, faculty, staff, and residents who work continuously throughout the year to advance UBC’s goal of developing a caring and safe campus community.
