Call for Applications: 2015 Chapman & Innovation Grants

The Chapman and Innovation Grants are designed to spark student learning and the social imagination. Winning projects build and promote strong community partnerships to further social and sustainable goals.  From local history and culture to environmental, health and social initiatives, grant funds may be applied to local, regional and provincial projects.

Up to 10K is available for each project and 6-10 projects are funded each year over a 2-4 month period.

Projects are selected based on their ability to:

  • Promote interdisciplinary and experiential learning
  • Support and serve community-driven priorities and assets in Vancouver and British Columbia
  • Encourage innovative thinking and collaboration

Key dates for the C&I grant process

Application form due: February 27th, 2015 at 5:00 pm

Grant proposal due: April 3rd, 2015 at 5:00 pm

3 Minute Thesis

3MT LFS Heat

Its time to start working on your 3 Minute Thesis (3MT)!   LFS students have made strong showings in the past. This year we have decided to have an LFS Heat. The LFS Heat will be on Friday Mar 6 12-2pm. The top two in LFS will go on to compete in the UBC semi finals on Tuesday March 10th with the finals being Thurs Mar 12th. Dan Weary and Nina von Keyserlingk, Associate Deans, Graduate Programs and the LFS Learning Centre will be holding practice sessions to work on your message, presentations and to workshop (and critique) presentations. We are planning on meeting regularly for the next three weeks to prepare for the 3MT heat. Our first meeting will be Thursday Feb 12th 1-2pm in MCML 139.

Call for Applications – UBC Sustainability Scholars Summer 2015 (Greenest City Scholars)

Call for Applications – UBC Sustainability Scholars Summer 2015 (Greenest City Scholars)

UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) is proud to once again partner with the City of Vancouver to sponsor graduate students to work in funded sustainability internship projects this summer, to advance Vancouver’s greenest city goals.

USI is currently accepting applications for the summer 2015 intake of the Greenest City Scholars Program. There are 18 available positions, and UBC Vancouver graduate students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply.

Successful candidates will work with the City in support of the Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. Each Scholar receives $5,000 to complete 250 hours of work between 1 May and 14 August 2015.
