Free statistical consultation is available this term, from graduate students enrolled in our practicum course STAT 551, Statistical Consulting.

Upcoming doctoral deadlines for May 2017 graduation

Standard

The first of four doctoral examination deadlines for students looking to graduate in the May 2017 Congregation is approaching. If there are students in your program who are aiming to complete their programs this spring then we ask that you make them aware of these upcoming deadlines:

  • Friday, December 2, 2016 – Nominations for External Examiner form submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Friday, January 27, 2017 – Doctoral dissertation and supporting documentation submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for external examination.
  • Friday, March 24, 2017 – Last day for final doctoral oral examinations.
  • Thursday, April 13, 2017 – Acceptance of final, approved doctoral dissertation by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Students who are hoping to graduate in the spring but are concerned about their ability to meet any of the above deadlines should contact the Doctoral Exams Office as soon as possible at graduate.doctoral@ubc.ca.

Junior Food Scientist (Food Manufacturer)

Job Description

We are a small but fast growing Food Manufacturer located in Burnaby, BC. We are seeking an individual to fill the position of Junior Food Scientist to assist us in the completion of customer generated and internally generated paperwork tasks related to our current and future product lines as well as food manufacturing.

The successful individual will be comfortable in their understanding of Product Specifications, Food GMPs, Quality Control, Nutritional labelling, governmental regulations, etc. There will also be some R & D tasks involved in the role. The ideal candidate will possess a willingness to learn and possess the desire to solve problems, while working independently and often unsupervised. Good working knowledge of MS Office and previous experience working in an office environment preferred. The candidate should possess decent communication and team player skills. We are willing to train the right individual, so long as there is an educational foundation in Food Science or Food Nutrition. The ideal candidate should also feel confident about negotiating with vendors and buyers and possess business acumen. Strong negotiating skills are especially desirable in this position.
