See below for more detail, we hope to see you there!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><u><a href=\"https:\/\/e1.envoke.com\/ct\/4551\/3199786\/786037706\/508ab86ef88e6149775fa1d1152cfd51\"><strong>Action Amplified: ORICE Annual Symposium on Global Community Engagement<\/strong><\/a><\/u><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Thursday, October 19th, 2023 | 5:00-9:30pm PDT <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Liu Institute for Global Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Join us for the ORICE Annual Symposium! This year\u2019s theme, <strong>\u201cAction Amplified,\u201d<\/strong> aims to critically explore questions related to social, ecological, and economic challenges on local and global scales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will feature a <strong>keynote talk <\/strong>from Ash Peplow Ball on <strong><em>&#8220;How to Build a Movement&#8221;<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong>concurrent sessions featuring presentations from UBC students<\/strong> who participated in immersive community-based placements over the summer in East Africa.They will share their learnings, challenges, and reflections from their experiences with community-based research and learning programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration is free<\/strong> and light <strong>refreshments will be served<\/strong>! Through <a href=\"https:\/\/e1.envoke.com\/ct\/4551\/3199786\/786037716\/508ab86ef88e6149775fa1d1152cfd51\">the story of a 200-year-old tree<\/a>, Ash will highlight how to identify your strengths as a changemaker, cultivate active hope, and get involved in the everyday movement building that just might be happening on your own street!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Featured Concurrent Session<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Gender+ Paradigm: Implications for Research and Everyday Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>How do our identities shape our experiences? Do the intersections of our identities affect how research is conducted? If so, how? Why does this matter to our everyday lives? <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Housed under UBC ORICE, the <strong>Gender+ in Research Collective<\/strong> works to build a community for rich dialogue in which gender and other identity intersections, including race, class, sexuality and ability, are considered when conducting community-engaged research.
