SYLVIS is looking to expand its reach by growing across North America and is looking for employees that approach life with a desire to always learn, evolve, and grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POSITION DESCRIPTION<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Applied Research Scientist will work directly with the President of SYLVIS to plan, execute, and grow SYLVIS\u2019s internal applied research program that is foundational to the SYLVIS mission to Make Waste History. SYLVIS projects realize the value of residuals (e.g. biosolids, wood ash, compost, pulp and paper residuals, landfill leachate, etc.) by introducing them back into the environment for ecological and societal benefit. As a self-starter, you will design and execute research that determines if and how best residuals can be used, supporting business growth objectives and keeping SYLVIS at the forefront of pioneering beneficial residuals management.<br \/>\nYou will be involved in all aspects of research from big picture vision development to hands on field sampling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><br \/>\nResponsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:<br \/>\n\u2022 Identify key research questions to be addressed with input from qualified<br \/>\nprofessionals, project managers, clients, landowners, and the business development<br \/>\nteam<br \/>\n\u2022 Lead the development of robust experimental designs, data collection, statistical<br \/>\nanalyses, and reporting functions of the research program<br \/>\n\u2022 Implement and integrate applied research experiments within operational projects<br \/>\n\u2022 Lead stand alone research projects for clients<br \/>\n\u2022 Provide subject matter expertise in soil science, nutrient management, and the value<br \/>\nof residuals in SYLVIS\u2019s projects<br \/>\n\u2022 Work with the marketing, business development, and project teams to leverage<br \/>\nresearch results into value proposition for clients and the environment<br \/>\n\u2022 Establish new research partnerships and relationships with external agencies; support<br \/>\nand grow existing relationships and partnerships<br \/>\n\u2022 Identifying sources of funding for research and development<br \/>\n\u2022 Complete documentation and submissions for the Scientific Research and<br \/>\nExperimental Development (SR&amp;ED) Tax Incentive Program<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in an environmental discipline related to forestry,<br \/>\nagriculture, plant science, soil science, biology, or a similar field with a minimum of five<br \/>\nyears of experience<br \/>\n\u2022 Valid Canadian driver\u2019s license<br \/>\nSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE<br \/>\n\u2022 Soil science and plant nutrition expertise<br \/>\n\u2022 Field sample collection and analyses (soil, water, residuals, vegetation)<br \/>\n\u2022 Conducting literature reviews<br \/>\n\u2022 Clear communication of scientific information, targeted for the audience<br \/>\n\u2022 Development of hypotheses, experimental design, data management, statistical<br \/>\nanalyses, reporting, and publications<br \/>\n\u2022 Demonstrated ability to write proposals and develop project and program budgets<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience working with residuals (e.g. biosolids, wood ash, compost, pulp and paper<br \/>\nresiduals, landfill leachate, etc.) is considered an asset<\/p>\n<p>As a professional you will bring the following <strong>qualities to the position<\/strong>:<br \/>\n\u2022 A can-do attitude and superior attention to detail and quality,<br \/>\n\u2022 Exceptional organization and communication skills,<br \/>\n\u2022 A willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions,<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to travel to sites throughout Western Canada<\/p>\n<p><strong>BENEFITS<\/strong><br \/>\nSYLVIS is committed to offering best-in-class benefits for its employees and is highly focused on employee satisfaction and retention. As a proven and experienced agrologist, this role will be responsible to manage large client-based projects, operationally implementing the beneficial use of biosolids and\/or other residuals (wood ash, compost, pulp and paper residuals, landfill leachate, etc.). They will be empowered to lead their project teams with a high level of autonomy to deliver exceptional results on time and on budget. This role will support the business development team through proposal writing and engagement with our clients and potential land partners. It may require you to attend meetings with agricultural producers and participate in trade shows and conferences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><br \/>\nResponsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:<br \/>\n\u2022 Use your interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment both<br \/>\ninternally and externally.
