{"id":11063,"date":"2024-10-07T15:17:40","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T22:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=11063"},"modified":"2024-10-07T15:17:40","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T22:17:40","slug":"memo-from-provost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-11063","title":{"rendered":"Memo from Provost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MEMORANDUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>October 7, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>TO: All in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems \u2013 faculty, staff, students, and postdoctoral <\/strong><strong>fellows (distributed via the Dean&#8217;s office)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FROM: Gage Averill, Provost and Vice-President Academic, UBC Vancouver<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>RE: Leadership of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year we undertook a President\u2019s Search for a new Dean of Land and Food Systems. As you know, the search did not yield a successful hire, and we were fortunate to have Dr. David Kitts agree to serve as Dean pro tem until a new Dean is hired.<\/p>\n<p>We have held conversations with the executive search firm that conducted the last search, and we have been told that the small pool of senior candidates for such a job (especially in Canada) means that we have largely exhausted the possible candidates who are currently willing to consider another position.
