Immerse yourself in a classic North West Legend featuring incredible and original illustrations by world-renowned printmaker, painter, carver, author, Roy Henry Vickers. Peace Dancer is the fourth book in a series by Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd. Vickers shares the Legend from his village of Kitkatla, BC;\u00a0the story of The Flood. This event is part of UBC Reads Sustainability, a speaker series on issues that matter.<\/p>\n

Brock Commons – the Tall Wood House – is the newest addition to UBC student residence buildings. Move UBC<\/a> is a month-long campaign focused on encouraging our community members to reduce sedentary behaviour and fit movement into their day in fun and easy ways. Future of Food Global Dialogue Series: We Were Healthier When it Used to Rain<\/strong> Date: March 1st<\/strong> Time: 12pm-1:30pm Location: Liu Institute for Global Studies – Multipurpose rm<\/strong> We’ve got amazing speakers at our Future of Food Global Dialogue series. The series include topics such as climate change, food security, biodiversity, social justice, culture, and policy. The next in the calendar is by Dr Angela McIntyre on participatory food security research with rural South African communities. Implementing the Paris Agreement: Are We On the Right Track? <\/strong> Date: March 7th<\/strong> Time: 12pm-2pm Location: Liu Institute for Global Issues \u2013 Multipurpose rm<\/strong> Over 100 countries have ratified the Paris Agreement at record speed, and it came into effect on November 4, 2016. Are we on track to implementing the Paris Agreement? Can individual governments live up to their nationally determined commitments? Even if they do, will that\u00a0limit global warming to the 2 degrees\u00a0Celsius tipping point? Mr. Satya Tripathi, Senior Advisor for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the UN, will review the challenges that countries must confront and opportunities they must capitalize upon to have a realistic shot at implementing the Paris Agreement. Canada’s Carbon Tax: What it means for you, the environment, and the economy<\/strong> Date: March 9th<\/strong> Time: 5pm-6:30pm Location:BC Hydro Theatre, CIRS<\/strong> Want to learn about federal carbon taxes and how they affect the Canadian economy and the environment? Join us for a panel discussion on March 9th! Panelists will have different perspectives on carbon taxes and will be taking questions from the audience. Brought to you by the Sustainability Ambassadors<\/a> and the Environmental Policy Association<\/a>, this event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about environmental policy and how carbon taxes influence both our daily lives and the country as a whole. UBC Farm Community Workshop Series<\/strong> Dates: beginning March 9th through May 13th<\/strong> Times: Various Locations: Various<\/strong> The UBC Farm hosts workshops in three seasons, the Spring, Summer and Fall. Workshops are led by our staff, partners in the community or experts from around the region. Each UBC Farm workshop strives to include hands-on activities for participants. Advancing Water Stewardship in Mining – from the Site to the Catchment <\/strong> Date: March 14<\/strong> Time: 12pm-1pm<\/strong> Location: Liu Institute for Global Issues – Multipurpose rm<\/strong> No RSVP required.<\/strong> Join us for this talk by\u00a0Nadja Kunz, Assistant Professor at the Liu Institute for Global Issues and Norman B Keevil\u00a0Mining Engineering at UBC, as part of the Policy@UBC series and CIRDI seminar series.\u00a0Nadja works at the interface of research and practice to resolve private sector water challenges, with a focus on the mining and resources sector.\u00a0This presentation provides an overview of Nadja\u2019s evolving research program that focuses on developing new tools and frameworks to improve collaborative decision-making by governments, communities and industry towards more sustainable water allocation and efficient water use. UBC Farm 2017 Summer Internships<\/strong> Application deadlines: February and March<\/strong> The LFS Career Development Internship (LFS 496) prepares UBC students professionally and academically for future careers through a mentored learning experience with a real food business or organization. The nine positions range from field and harvest work at the UBC Farm, developing workshop curriculum, working in web communications, training food entrepreneurs, and fostering community with the Tu’Wusht Indigenous Garden. The positions are unpaid, for-credit internships.\u00a0Explore<\/a> the list of internships to find out more.<\/p>\n

BC Provincial Election – GreenPAC campaign<\/strong> GreenPAC<\/a>, a non-partisan non-profit that is working to elect environmental leaders in Canadian politics, is reaching out to UBC students to\u00a0build volunteer teams.\u00a0Check out<\/a>\u00a0our volunteer handbook for more details. Funded PhD Workshop in Berlin: Climate Policies after Paris<\/strong> Application Deadline: February 24th<\/strong> Location: Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin, Berlin, Germany<\/strong> Through UBC’s participation in the University Alliance for Sustainability, UBC PhD students are invited to apply and present their climate policy\u00a0research at a Spring Campus workshop (March 28-31) organized in collaboration with the\u00a0Free University Berlin. The workshop seeks to explore research on climate policies after Paris. Submit a short abstract<\/a> by February 24<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Henry Scholarship for Communities and Environmental Health<\/strong> Application\u00a0Deadline: May 10th<\/strong> The\u00a0Elizabeth Henry Scholarship<\/a>\u00a0supports graduate students working on BC based research projects that are addressing environmental health issues and promoting environmental sustainability through cooperative community initiatives. It provides an annual award of $2,000 for eligible research projects. The scholarship is funded by the Fraser Basin Council, British Columbia Clean Air Research (BC CLEAR) Fund and by many friends, family members and colleagues who wish to remember Elizabeth and her work.
