Call for Nominations: Schmidt Science Fellowships<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Schmidt Science Fellows program is being launched to provide the next generation of leaders and innovators with an exceptional opportunity. Fellows will receive a stipend of $100,000 to support their involvement in two core program components: (i) a full-time, 11+ month postdoctoral research study in a field-leading laboratory, focusing on a discipline in the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics or computing that is different from their existing area of expertise and planned future focus and (ii) a series of four global meetings at the world\u2019s leading academic institutions, interspersed across the duration of the fellowship. To be considered eligible, individuals must have received or expect to receive a PhD in natural sciences (including life, physical, and earth sciences), engineering, mathematics, or computing between May 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018<\/span><\/strong>. UBC is one of 50 universities that have each been invited to nominate up to five students to an international competition, through which 12 Schmidt Science Fellows will be selected. Each UBC graduate program is invited to submit <\/span>one nomination (current PhD or postdoctoral fellow)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/u> to a university-wide competition. Given the highly competitive nature of this opportunity, graduate programs should nominate only an <\/span>exceptional individual who will stand out amongst top doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows from around the world<\/span><\/u><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A complete nomination will consist of the following, submitted as PDF documents attached to a single email, sent to graduate.awards@ubc.ca<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>CV of the nominee, including publications (maximum three pages)<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>statement from nominee (maximum one page), addressing the following two points: (a) alignment with the Schmidt Fellows program – interest in pursuing a year or more of postdoctoral study in a field different from the topic of study for which the nominee received his\/her doctorate and (b) collaborative spirit – demonstrated history of effective collaboration with diverse team members.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nominations must be received no later than 4:00pm Monday 30 October<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
