\u200b<\/span><\/span>Without further ado, we are delighted to release our\u00a0<\/span>agenda<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for the upcoming\u00a0<\/span>summer school 2018<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0The Public Health Approach: Building Safe & Inclusive Communities<\/i><\/b>, happening at university campuses across BC from\u00a0July 5th to 6th, 2018.\u00a0<\/span>Registration\u00a0<\/a><\/span>is on\u00a0now, don’t miss your chance to attend one of BC’s only continuing education courses for public health.
\n<\/span> This year our summer school will benefit from partnerships with the\u00a0<\/span>Saskatchewan Public Health Association<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Red Cross Canada<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Frontier College<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>BC Healthy Communities<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>PosAbilities<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to delve into the theme of building safe and inclusive communities through a variety of topics including:<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Building Healthy, Safe & Inclusive Environments<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Emergency Response<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Community Inclusion & Literacy<\/span><\/p>\n

Speakers will include\u00a0Ann Pederson<\/b>, Director of Population Health Promotion at BC Women\u2019s Hospital & Health Centre,\u00a0Richard Harvey<\/b>, regional director of BC, Alberta & Yukon at Frontier College,\u00a0Dr. Bernie Pauly<\/b>, associate professor of the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria,\u00a0Indiana Best<\/b>, board member of Student Wellness Initiative Towards Community Health (SWITCH),\u00a0Dr. Ian Pike<\/b>, director at BC Children’s Hospital\u2019s Injury Research and Prevention Unit,\u00a0Steve Woolrich<\/b>, principal of Rethink Urban,\u00a0Dr. Gord Miller<\/b>, President of the Public Health Association of BC,\u00a0Judi Fairholm<\/b>, director of Respect Education program at Red Cross Canada,\u00a0Sarah Burke<\/b>, Senior Manager of Community Integrated Development & Emergency Management at Red Cross Canada, and more speakers to be announced!<\/span><\/p>\n

This two-day workshop is designed to help you\u00a0identify public health approaches to building safe and inclusive communities, understand how physical and social environments influence community safety, inclusion and health, assess barriers to safety & inclusion in their own communities, and to examine innovative and collaborative methods of promoting community safety and inclusion. Don\u2019t miss your chance to learn how you can help to create safe and inclusive communities while networking with like-minded individuals across the province and beyond!<\/span><\/p>\n

Locations for the\u00a0summer school<\/a>\u00a0include the\u00a0University of Victoria<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0University of British Columbia<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0University of Northern British Columbia<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0University of British Columbia: Okanagan<\/span><\/strong>. A\u00a0videoconferencing connection will allow all four main sites to actively participate in the full summer school experience. A further connection to our partners at the Saskatchewan Public Health Association will open our summer school up to members of SPHA and help facilitate inter-provincial collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n
