When: <\/strong>Tuesday 14th August @ 7pm About The Event<\/strong><\/p>\n At the start of May, Lucy Graham and Mahilde Gordon (a.k.a. Passage Adventures<\/a>) launched their sea kayaks from the shores of Glacier Bay in Alaska, beginning a 2100km, 3-month long journey through the Inside Passage, raising awareness of marine debris along their way! They collected data on marine debris, participated in a beach cleanup and spoke at several public events. They have also raised thousands of dollars for ocean charities.<\/p>\n Come along to find out if, at the end of their trip, they are still friends! Did they starve or was the plastic free food storage a success? How was their journey around Cape Caution? What did they see on their remote beach cleanup with the Living Oceans Society? What are some ideas to combat global marine debris and stop this rubbish at the source?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n When: <\/strong>Tuesday 28th August @ 7pm About The Event<\/strong><\/p>\n Amphibians, such as frogs and salamanders, face serious threats including habitat loss, pollution, and disease. The threats are so extreme that at least one third of amphibians are threatened with extinction.<\/p>\n The last chance for some species is the establishment of captive populations in zoos and aquariums. But what amphibian species are in these institutions and are they the ones with the greatest conservation need?<\/p>\n In this talk, Alannah Biega examines the role that zoos and aquariums are playing in the conservation of this important group of animals. From researching the efforts of institutions worldwide (including a salamander breeding program run by a Mexican nunnery) to presenting her work at one of the oldest zoos in the world, Alannah shares her insight into the novel efforts to save species at the brink of extinction.<\/p>\n Celebrate the Pride Season with fishy drag performances, unusual animal sex lives science talks, or just grab a friend and explore the Aquarium, with a drink in hand.<\/p>\n
