CAGS \/ ProQuest\u00a0Distinguished Dissertation Awards<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>INTERNAL DEADLINE \u2013 February 13, 2019<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The CAGS\/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Awards recognize exceptional doctoral dissertations that make significant, original contributions to both the academic community and to Canadian society. There are two awards: one for engineering, medical sciences and natural sciences; and one for fine arts, humanities and social sciences.\u00a0 Awards are offered through this spring\u2019s competition for dissertations completed and accepted by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2018. The awards include a $1,500 prize, a Citation Certificate and travel expenses of up to $1,500 to attend the 2019 CAGS Annual Conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each UBC graduate program may nominate one dissertation to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies by\u00a04:00pm on Friday, 22 February 2019<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor General\u2019s Gold Medal<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>INTERNAL DEADLINE February 22, 2019<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One gold medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record as a doctoral student. A second gold medal is awarded to the graduate student who has achieved most outstanding academic record as a Master\u2019s student completing a thesis.\u00a0 Students must have submitted the final copy of their thesis to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies between January 1, 2018\u00a0and December 31, 2018.\u00a0 This is an opportunity to honour the best in the graduating class within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, as there is only one award for more than 2,000 Master\u2019s graduates and one award for more than 500 doctoral graduates. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General of Canada by participating educational institutions, along with a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General. There is no monetary award associated with the medals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please be aware of the deadline for the Governor General\u2019s Gold Medal competition, which is open to nominations from all graduate programs at UBC\u00a0via their Faculty Dean\u2019s Office. Graduate programs must check with their respective Dean\u2019s Office for their Faculty\u2019s internal nomination deadline<\/span><\/strong>. Internal nomination deadlines are normally several weeks before the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies deadline.\u00a0 The deadline for disciplinary Faculties to submit their nominations to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is\u00a04:00 p.m. on Friday, 8\u00a0March 2019<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
