{"id":5632,"date":"2019-09-03T15:45:13","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T22:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=5632"},"modified":"2019-09-03T15:45:13","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T22:45:13","slug":"2020-ubc-farm-practicum-applications-now-open-request-for-promotional-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-5632","title":{"rendered":"2020 UBC Farm Practicum, Applications Now Open &#8211; Request for Promotional Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The 2020 UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture is now\u00a0accepting applications!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The UBC Farm Practicum can be taken as either a seven-month (April \u2013 October), or as a five-month (April \u2013 August),\u00a0experiential-learning program.\u00a0 The program is part-time (approximately 20 hours per week), and is designed for aspiring farmers, urban gardeners, environmental educators, and students with an interest in applying their learning about sustainable agriculture and food systems. The program is often taken as a non-credit Certificate program; however, <u>6-9 academic credits are available<\/u> for interested students.<\/p>\n<p>Participants gain a deeper understanding of agricultural management and small-scale farming, and a network of incredible people to support them along the way.\u00a0 The main approach to learning within the program is hands-on practice.\u00a0 Participants carry out seasonal farming activities with leadership provided by UBC Farm staff in the greenhouses, gardens, fields, orchards, and at our farmers\u2019 markets. In addition, the program includes numerous guest speakers, field trips to various farming operations within the province, and access to a plot at the UBC Farm for individual and shared production.<\/p>\n<p>The UBC Farm is a 24-hectare gem, the largest urban farm in Vancouver, British Columbia, and situated on a site with numerous research, educational, and community outreach activities.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the UBC Farm Practicum website for detailed information and access to the online application:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ubcfarm.ubc.ca\/community\/practicum-in-sustainable-agriculture\">http:\/\/ubcfarm.ubc.ca\/community\/practicum-in-sustainable-agriculture<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All applications received by September 24th will be considered for Early Admission.\u00a0\u00a0All applications for the Regular Deadline pool are due by <strong>October 27th.\u00a0 <\/strong>Please note: To enroll in the Practicum program, you do NOT have to be a UBC student or post-secondary student.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>Practicum Open House<\/strong> will\u00a0occur on\u00a0 <strong>September 14<sup>th<\/sup>, 12 pm \u2013 2 pm.\u00a0 <\/strong>We will provide a forum to ask questions, meet current practicum students, and receive a tour of the site.\u00a0 No registration is needed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/files\/2019\/09\/Practicum-Poster-V1.pdf\">Practicum Poster V1<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2020 UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture is now\u00a0accepting applications!
