{"id":6083,"date":"2020-02-07T15:53:53","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T22:53:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=6083"},"modified":"2020-02-07T15:53:53","modified_gmt":"2020-02-07T22:53:53","slug":"invite-unexpected-gender-with-dory-nason","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-6083","title":{"rendered":"Invite &#8211; Unexpected Gender with Dory Nason"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello researchers working with gender+,<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/orice.ubc.ca\/programs\/research-collectives\/\">Collective for Gender+ in Research<\/a>, is hosting an exciting new<em> Unexpected Gender <\/em>series of learning sessions looking into <em>unexpected <\/em>or <em>innovative <\/em>ways that gender+ is brought into all stages of research process &#8212; from research question formation to knowledge dissemination.<\/p>\n<p>Our first session is starting off with a discussion lead by Dr. Dory Nason, from Critical Indigenous Studies. We\u2019ll be meeting on Thursday February 13<sup>th<\/sup>, from 12:00pm \u2013 1:30pm, at X\u02b7\u03b8\u0259\u03b8iq\u0259t\u0259m the Place of Many Trees (Liu Institute, 6476 NW Marine Dr.).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_1Yxk1grDw5Z7yRf\">Join us, but first, RSVP!<\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dory Nason\u2019s areas of research include contemporary Indigenous Feminisms and related Native women\u2019s intellectual history and literature. She locates Native literature as an important and evolving site of feminist, Indigenous resurgent, and anti-carceral resistance often overlooked.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following an opening by Dr. Dory Nason, we will be opening to a question period and discussion of our experiences as researchers working towards engaging gender+. We see our graduate researcher audience as an important contributor to engage in the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Some questions we hope to explore include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Was gender unexpected for you?
