{"id":7633,"date":"2021-08-25T18:32:07","date_gmt":"2021-08-26T01:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=7633"},"modified":"2021-08-25T18:32:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T01:32:07","slug":"new-lfs-graduate-student-orientation-september-16-at-700-pm-pdt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-7633","title":{"rendered":"New LFS Graduate Student Orientation &#8211; September 16 at 7:00 PM PDT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following email was bcc&#8217;d to email on file for all LFS students starting their graduate program in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">September 2021 &#8211; research-based, professional and graduate certificate programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Good evening:<\/p>\n<p>The G&amp;PS Office will be presenting a <strong>new LFS graduate student orientation on Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 PM PDT<\/strong> (virtual via zoom).\u00a0 This is an opportunity for new LFS graduate students to meet each other, the LFS G&amp;PS Team, hear a welcome message from the Dean, an introduction to the LFS Graduate Student Society and have a chance to meet grad advisors and program directors.\u00a0 The orientation will take approximately an hour and is virtual, via zoom (details below).\u00a0 RSVP\u2019ing is not necessary as registration is required for this meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5Yofu2gqDIuH9fGddFYJk33tyRDKSAJQcET\">Register in advance for this meeting<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5Yofu2gqDIuH9fGddFYJk33tyRDKSAJQcET\">https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5Yofu2gqDIuH9fGddFYJk33tyRDKSAJQcET<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, depending on the number and availability of participants, we are hoping to end the orientation by breaking out into program-specific rooms with graduate advisors and directors.\u00a0 We have asked grad advisors to reach out to students individually if they are not able to attend orientation.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good opportunity for new students to meet their grad advisor and get a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, last year we started an <strong>LFS Graduate Student Peer-To-Peer Program<\/strong>.\u00a0 This informal program involves senior graduate students reaching out to all new research-based students.\u00a0 You should receive a welcome\/intro email shortly.\u00a0 Please contact our office by the end of September if you haven\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve attached the most recent version of the <strong>LFS Graduate &amp; Postdoctoral Studies Office directory<\/strong> that includes all program graduate advisors.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, it\u2019s the start of a new academic year; of <strong>COURSE<\/strong> there are going to be announcements!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, September 7 at 1:00 PM PDT (virtual)<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Campus Re-entry and Social Anxiety Workshop<br \/>\n<\/strong>Presented by Wellness Advisors at UBC <a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/health\/counselling-services\">Counselling Services<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/j\/69762394676?pwd=bzJhRDF5ZkhuZUxtRlNidHltekw1QT09\">Click Here to Join<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>MEETING ID:<\/strong> 697 6239 4676<br \/>\n<strong>PASSCODE:<\/strong> 383409<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, September 24 at 3:00 \u2013 5:00 PM (in person)<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Welcome, Welcome Back and Thank you!
