{"id":7827,"date":"2021-10-21T11:40:53","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T18:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=7827"},"modified":"2021-10-21T11:40:53","modified_gmt":"2021-10-21T18:40:53","slug":"call-for-applications-ibm-phd-fellowship-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-7827","title":{"rendered":"Call for Applications: IBM PhD Fellowship Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please share the following announcement as appropriate.\u00a0 Note that <strong><u>this award is externally administered; faculty members nominate their students directly to IBM (departments do not nominate applicants).<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IBM PhD Fellowship Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since 1951, the IBM PhD Fellowship Program has collaborated with faculty, students and universities by recognizing and supporting exceptional PhD students that address\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ibm.com\/university\/awards\/fellowships-focus-areas.html\">focused areas of interest in technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Interested applicants must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member<\/u><\/strong> (faculty member nominates the applicant directly to IBM). The nominator provides the supporting documentation (CV, dissertation description, etc.), categorizes the student&#8217;s initial career interests, and submits the nomination for evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>All nominees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member; students cannot nominate themselves.<\/li>\n<li>must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program over the two consecutive academic years of the award or forfeit the fellowship.<\/li>\n<li>should have three years remaining in their program at the time of nomination so the fellowship can be applied to the last two years of study.<\/li>\n<li>that are from U.S. embargoed countries are not eligible for the program.<\/li>\n<li>that are receiving a comparable fellowship, internship, or support from another company or institution (except for academic scholarships) during the IBM PhD Fellowship funding period are ineligible for this award<\/li>\n<li>must stay in the same program for the duration of the award \u2014no transferring of departments or schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Value:\u00a0$6,000 to $25,000 per year<\/p>\n<p>Nomination deadline:\u00a0November 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm PT (5:00 pm ET)<\/p>\n<p>For more information, including nomination procedures, please see the IBM webpage (<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ibm.com\/university\/awards\/fellowships.html\">https:\/\/research.ibm.com\/university\/awards\/fellowships.html<\/a>) and FAQ (<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ibm.com\/university\/awards\/fellowships-faq.html\">https:\/\/research.ibm.com\/university\/awards\/fellowships-faq.html<\/a>).\u00a0 Questions should be directed to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:phdfellow@us.ibm.com\">phdfellow@us.ibm.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please share the following announcement as appropriate.\u00a0 Note that this award is externally administered; faculty members nominate their students directly to IBM (departments do not nominate applicants).
