{"id":7964,"date":"2021-12-07T11:12:55","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T18:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=7964"},"modified":"2021-12-07T11:12:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T18:12:55","slug":"competition-announcement-and-info-session-friedman-award-for-scholars-in-health-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-7964","title":{"rendered":"Competition Announcement and Info Session: Friedman Award for Scholars in Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Friedman Award for Scholars in Health<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Friedman Award for Scholars in Health\u00a0is open to any UBC graduate student or medical resident studying in the area of health. \u2018Health\u2019 is interpreted very broadly, and includes health promotion and disease prevention, mental health research, laboratory sciences related to medicine or health, public health, health services research, or any area intended to impact human health.\u00a0 Applicants do not need to be studying in a health-related degree to be eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Awards of up to $50,000 each will be granted for 6 to 12 months of study outside of Western Canada. \u00a0Friedman Scholars are expected to travel to other areas of Canada and the world to seek new perspectives, learn from experts in their fields and be exposed to different cultures. \u00a0The award amount will be at the discretion of the adjudication committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note regarding COVID-19<\/strong>:\u00a0The Friedman is an award to fund travel.\u00a0 In some cases, travel is not currently possible due to the ongoing pandemic.\u00a0 However, applicants should approach their application with the assumption that travel will be possible in 2022\/2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline<\/strong>:\u00a0Friday, 11 March 2022 at\u00a04:00 pm PT<\/p>\n<p>For further information about this award opportunity, including eligibility requirements and application procedures, please visit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/awards\/friedman-award-scholars-health\">https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/awards\/friedman-award-scholars-health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A complete application must be submitted online by\u00a0<strong>4:00 pm PT on Friday, 11 March 2022<\/strong>.
