{"id":8165,"date":"2022-02-24T15:56:43","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T22:56:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=8165"},"modified":"2022-02-24T15:56:43","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T22:56:43","slug":"call-for-nominations-schmidt-science-fellowships-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-8165","title":{"rendered":"Call for Nominations: Schmidt Science Fellowships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>INTERNAL Deadline: Friday, March 18, 2022<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Schmidt Science Fellowships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Schmidt Science Fellows program provides the world\u2019s best emerging scientists with new skills and perspectives to develop novel solutions to society\u2019s challenges, become scientific and societal thought leaders, and accelerate ground-breaking discoveries.\u00a0 The program is looking for the brightest minds in the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computing who are interested in broadening their horizons.\u00a0\u00a0Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 USD per year and are supported to pursue a one to two year postdoctoral placement at a world-leading laboratory anywhere in the world in a disciplinary pivot from their PhD.\u00a0 Fellows also benefit from a Global Meeting Series and personalized mentoring program.<\/p>\n<p>UBC is one of select group of the world\u2019s leading science and engineering institutions\u00a0that are invited to nominate students to the international competition.\u00a0 In 2021, 28 Schmidt Science Fellows were selected to be recipients globally.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the eligibility requirements, applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, all the requirements for the conferral of their UBC PhD, including a successful defense,\u00a0between 1 June 2022 and 30 July 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Each UBC graduate program is invited to submit\u00a0<strong><u>one<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>nomination<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0to the university-wide competition.
