{"id":8317,"date":"2022-04-19T16:36:47","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T23:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=8317"},"modified":"2022-04-19T16:36:47","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T23:36:47","slug":"spring-graduate-awards-competition-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-8317","title":{"rendered":"Spring Graduate Awards Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LFS Internal Deadline \u2013 Friday, May 6<sup>th<\/sup> at 4:00 PM PDT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Please notify me of your intention of applying by Tuesday, April 26<sup>th<\/sup> , 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring Graduate Awards Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A number of university awards for the upcoming academic year are available to current and incoming graduate students.\u00a0\u00a0The maximum value of funding that can be offered to a student is $16,000.\u00a0 Applicants will apply via their graduate programs with a single application that may be considered for as many of the Spring Graduate Awards as they are eligible for, taking note\u00a0of the following\u00a0important considerations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>: To be eligible to receive funding, <strong>applicants must meet\u00a0both the overall eligibility requirements as outlined on the award webpage (ex. months of study) and all\u00a0of the eligibility requirements for each individual Spring Graduate Award they apply for. Applicants will not be considered for an award if they do not clearly meet the criteria for the award.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Selection<\/strong>: \u00a0\u00a0While award recipients will be selected based on the evaluation criteria, <strong>priority will be given to eligible candidates who do not hold significant scholarship funding (i.e., $16,000 or higher) for the 2022\/23 academic year (September 2022 to August 2023).<\/strong> If a student is offered Spring Awards funding, and later receives other scholarship funding of $16,000 or higher for the same period, the Spring Awards funding offer would normally be rescinded.\n<ul>\n<li>Exception: Some of the Spring Graduate Awards have very niche award descriptions (eligibility requirements).\u00a0 For example, the #6362 award \u2018James and Setsuko Thurlow Scholarship in Peace and Disarmament Studies\u2019.\u00a0 If a Spring Graduate Award receives a very low number of eligible applications, it may be awarded to a student who already has significant scholarship funding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Application deadline<\/strong><strong>: LFS Internal Deadline is 4:00 PM PDT, Friday May 6, 2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants must submit the following materials to <strong>Iris (<a href=\"mailto:lfs.gradasst@ubc.ca\">lfs.gradasst@ubc.ca<\/a>)<\/strong> by the deadline:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/forms\/spring-graduate-awards-competition-application-form\">Application Form &#8211; PART 1<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/forms\/spring-graduate-awards-competition-application-form\">Application Form &#8211; PART 2<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ccv-cvc.ca\/indexresearcher-eng.frm\">Canadian CCV \u2013 CGS-Master\u2019s version<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Up-to-date, complete, <strong>official\u00a0<\/strong>transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate studies (including studies undertaken but not completed) up to December 31, 2021.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/forms\/spring-graduate-awards-competition-reference-form\">One recommendation letter\/form<\/a>. In some cases, a reference letter submitted for a previous scholarship competition may be used; see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/forms\/spring-graduate-awards-competition-application-form\">application instructions<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Important: Please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grad.ubc.ca\/forms\/spring-graduate-awards-competition-application-form\">application instructions<\/a> for essential details on each application item noted above.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Important note:<\/u><\/strong> Please make sure <strong><u>you meet the eligibility for the specific awards you have selected<\/u><\/strong> (in the completed Application Form &#8211; PART 2).
