{"id":9040,"date":"2023-01-06T14:53:49","date_gmt":"2023-01-06T21:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/?p=9040"},"modified":"2023-01-06T14:53:49","modified_gmt":"2023-01-06T21:53:49","slug":"community-garden-related-grant-project-opportunity-for-ubc-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsgrads\/post-9040","title":{"rendered":"Community garden related grant project opportunity for UBC students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagevancouver.ca\/\">Village Vancouver<\/a> (VV) is seeking a <strong>UBC<\/strong> <strong>undergraduate <\/strong>or <strong>Master\u2019s<\/strong> student to partner with on the following <a href=\"https:\/\/ccel.ubc.ca\/chapman-and-innovation-grants\/\">Chapman &amp; Innovation Grant<\/a> project application:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Food Resilience project.<\/strong><strong> This project would begin in May 2023, and has 6 main components: workshops, collaborative community gardens, seed libraries, DIY planter boxes, Westside Food Festival, and Westside Permaculture Corridor.\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagevancouver.ca\/\">Village Vancouver<\/a> is a community leader in transitioning towards low-carbon, resilient and complete communities.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re looking for a student who&#8217;s interested in working in collaboration with VV staff, volunteers, and workshop instructors in\u00a0a leadership capacity to help increase community food resilience in Vancouver through ensuring successful delivery of VV programs, expanding the capacity\u00a0of our programs, and working on adding a new component\u00a0or components\u00a0to the project, with an eye towards drawing on a students specific skill sets\u00a0and strengths. Some examples\u00a0of what the student might potentially engage in during the course of the project include programming food and gardening workshops, hosting activities\u00a0at our Westside Food Festival, planning garden\u00a0work parties at our collaborative, working with community gardens, coordinating seed distribution\u00a0at VV booths at street fairs, liaising\u00a0with VV seed library locations (e.g. Vancouver Public Library branches), organizing DIY planter box\u00a0giveaways, helping expand our permaculture corridor, and setting up a school gardening and seed saving program (e.g. workshops for children and youth).<\/p>\n<p>We are verifying candidates on a rolling basis, so please email <a href=\"mailto:Jacquie.kwok@ubc.ca\">Jacquie.kwok@ubc.ca<\/a> as soon as possible, with the following info:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Program area of study, year level<\/li>\n<li>Expression of interest (a brief paragraph)<\/li>\n<li>Resume (CV)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many thanks in advance to all those interested!
