My name is Alyssa and I am the Program Coordinator for the Summer Science Program.\u00a0The Summer Science Program runs for 2 weeks in July and brings together Indigenous high school students from urban and rural communities throughout British Columbia and other parts of Canada, for a culturally relevant and holistic learning opportunity designed to encourage the pursuit of post-secondary education, particularly in the science and health fields.<\/p>\n
I am reaching out as we are currently recruiting enthusiastic UBC students to be a part of our 2-week staff, in particular we are looking for students interested in the Land and Food Coordinator positions, <\/strong>and we were hoping you could help promote this opportunity\u00a0to students within Land and Food Systems.<\/p>\n This position’s role includes helping to deliver the programs\u00a0food services, guiding staff\/students on hygiene and food\u00a0preparation prior to meals, and assisting staff in guiding students to workshops both\u00a0on and off campus.<\/p>\n This year the camp runs from July 9th-July\u00a022nd, and the applications for the positions will be open until this\u00a0Friday May 19th<\/strong>. If you know any students who may be interested in this position or would be willing to share this opportunity with students in Land and Food Systems it would be greatly appreciated!<\/p>\n Here is a short blurb about the program and where to apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n The Summer Science Program is a two week program open to high school students going into grades 9-12 with\u00a0First Nations, Inuit, or M\u00e9tis ancestry. The program is a great opportunity to meet new friends, connect with Elders and Indigenous role models. As well, the students will participate in cultural and health\/STEM-related workshops.<\/p>\n We are currently looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering\u00a0or working during the 2 week\u00a0duration of the program (July 9th-22nd).
