St. Leonard’s Society of North Vancouver is looking for students to facilitate nutritional workshops

The St. Leonard’s Society of North Vancouver and The Correctional Service of Canada are offering volunteer opportunities for those interested in gaining valuable work experience while making significant contributions to the lives of others.

Their current project, ‘Bridging the Gap’ provides both cultural and recreational activities for Aboriginal offenders. The focus is on exposure to traditional teaching and opportunities to improve spiritual, mental, physical and emotional health.

Two volunteers are needed to facilitate a short interactive presentation regarding food choices, focusing on diabetic needs. Participants are reintegrating to the community and are of Aboriginal background. Volunteers will be supported by staff members and program volunteers.

An upbeat information session lasting no more than 1 hour and reflective of  cultural diets and limited food preparation knowledge of participants is required.

Needed materials will be provided. Experience working with marginalized groups and knowledge of Aboriginal culture and teachings are assets. Exact date of session TBA. The session will be held in the Vancouver area.
