These<br \/>\nprograms are three-fold and provide students with the opportunity to<br \/>\nHelp those less fortunate, Learn about and gain firsthand experience<br \/>\nin a specific academic area of interest, and Discover the diverse<br \/>\nterrains of Ecuador during a tour of the country. Help, Learn &amp;<br \/>\nDiscover currently offers three programs: Pre-Medical, Bio-Medical and<br \/>\nVolunteer.<\/p>\n<p>HELP<\/p>\n<p>Each program contains a common volunteer component which enables<br \/>\nstudents to offer help to communities in rural villages of Ecuador.<br \/>\nStudents fundraise in Canada and the United States and then travel to<br \/>\nEcuador in the summer to participate in a specific large-scale<br \/>\nvolunteer project. This year approximately 150 students will travel to<br \/>\nEcuador over a five-month period and help finance and build homes for<br \/>\nunderprivileged families in a rural Ecuadorian village. This rewarding<br \/>\nexperience will require students to take active roles in the<br \/>\nconstruction of the project. Students work alongside local families<br \/>\nand are able to watch the homes grow and become an integral part of<br \/>\nthe community.<\/p>\n<p>LEARN<\/p>\n<p>The Pre-Medical program is ideal for those interested in a future<br \/>\ncareer in health-care. Students work alongside in observation with<br \/>\nleading surgeons and other health-care professionals, shadowing<br \/>\nthrough eight different wards within a hospital setting. This program<br \/>\nis ideal whether you\u2019re certain that you want to become a doctor,<br \/>\nexploring the idea or just curious about medicine and health care. In<br \/>\nthe Bio-Medical program students enjoy a combination of the pre-<br \/>\nmedical program with a week discovering the unique species and<br \/>\necosystems of the enchanted Galapagos Islands. Finally, with the<br \/>\nVolunteer program students will use their extra week to work further<br \/>\nwith the community to help develop their homes and learn about their<br \/>\nculture.<\/p>\n<p>DISCOVER<\/p>\n<p>To conclude this amazing journey, students will tour through the<br \/>\njungles, rainforest, and coastal beaches of Ecuador, testing their<br \/>\nlimits with activities such as hiking, bungee jumping, paragliding and<br \/>\nsurfing. In turn, students will discover more about themselves while<br \/>\nlearning all this beautiful and exciting country has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>Programs are offered in select months of May, June, July, August and<br \/>\nSeptember of 2014.
