Lee Global Lounge and Resource Centre is holding a series of events from\u00a0<strong>Feb 4 to Feb 7, 2014<\/strong>. Join us to learn more \u00a0about international development and engage in discussions with staff, faculty and students from across campus and the community.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/260967467401276\/\"><b>Acute Relief, Lasting Results: Conflict Aid Paving the Way for International Development<\/b><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Tuesday, February 4, 4-6pm, Global Lounge (2205 Lower Mall, Building 1)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Friends of Medecines Sans Frontieres (MSF) and UBC Red Cross will present on the struggle to deliver aid in conflict zones as seen through the lenses of MSF and the International Committee of Red Cross. Opening with a discussion of what it means to be truly impartial in a crisis situation, they will look at challenges these and others face on the ground and around the world, and what can be done to facilitate their life-saving work.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/647812341926593\/\"><b>Extending the Table: Conversations around Food and Latin America<\/b><\/a><\/strong><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>Wednesday, February 5, 5:30-7:30 pm, Agora Cafe, MacMillan Building &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>2357 Main Mall<\/p>\n<p>The Global Lounge and The Faculty of Land &amp; Food Systems invite you to an interactive buffet dinner that will use the table as a metaphor illustrating the many connections between land, food, and community in both a local and global development context. \u00a0With a focus on Latin America, we will explore the implications of a global food system on local food (in)security, health systems, and sustainability of livelihoods in both our own city and communities around the world. Dinner by donation (pay what you can, no one turned away). All proceeds will go to the Umbrella Mobile Clinic.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/260967467401276\/\"><b>Interrupting Imperialist International Development: A Critical Race Feminist Analysis<\/b><\/a><\/strong><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>Thursday, February 6 (Thursday), 5:30-7:30 pm, Global Lounge (2205 Lower Mall Building 1)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grsj.arts.ubc.ca\/profile\/benita-bunjun\/\">Dr. Benita Bunjun<\/a> (Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice), Ahrthyh Arumugan (Psychology and Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice) and Mail Okugawa (International Relations\/Global Studies) \u00a0will interrogate imperialist \u201chelping narrative\u201d and \u201cglobal citizenship\u201d discourses and practices within an intersectional critical race feminist framework. \u00a0The panel will be followed by interactive discussions which focus on the West\u2019s and white settler societies\u2019 \u201cdesire for development\u201d and reproduction of benevolent citizens.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/752466938099429\/\"><strong>Conversations with International Humanitarians: Strengthening Communities Around the World\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Friday, February 7, 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, Global Lounge (2205 Lower Mall, Building 1)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Join us for an opportunity to have lunch with three international development practitioners who decided to use their skills and passions to make a positive social change in communities around the world.
