SCWIST has launched its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makepossible.ca\/about\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Make Possible Mentoring Network<\/strong><\/a>, part of the Government of Canada\u2019s Status of Women Initiative to advance women in science and technology. On March 5, we are inviting project manager <strong>Cheryl Kristiansen<\/strong> to demonstrate how you can connect, collaborate and lead through a dedicated mentoring network in STEM. You can join now at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scwist.ca\/ubc-brown-bag-lunch-series-mar-5\/www.makepossible.ca\" target=\"_blank\">www.makepossible.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of the Make Possible Program, <strong>Gwen Gnazdowsky<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oneconversation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">One Conversation<\/a> will deliver a Mentoring Workshop to empower women through mentorship activities and develop skills to create successful mentoring relationships. Hands-on exercises &amp; interactive group discussion will create a supportive learning environment, and networking exercises will help build a sense of community and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><b>Background on speakers:<\/b><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Cheryl Kristiansen from SCWIST<\/strong> brings diverse expertise in project management, engineering innovation and leading transformative change in STEM.\u00a0 She has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, hands-on engineering experience in the alternate fuels technology sector and senior leadership experience in the oil and gas sector.\u00a0 As Managing Director of the Mitchell Odyssey Foundation, Cheryl developed an effective network of Odyssey supported schools across BC with innovative programs that motivate and inspire high school students to pursue careers in STEM.\u00a0\u00a0 The Make Possible Program is well aligned with SCWIST goals to empower women and girls in science, engineering and technology. It also leverages unique SCWIST programs like IWIS \u2013 Immigrating Women in Science and Technology \u2013 and the MS Infinity Program that introduces girls to exciting career options and positive female role models in science and technology.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Gwen Gnazdowsky of ONE Conversation Coaching &amp; Facilitation <\/strong><\/b>has been helping people achieve personal, professional and relationship goals for over 25 years \u2013 One Conversation at a Time! She is the National Mentorship Program Developer and Coordinator with the Women in Leadership Foundation. Gwen recently delivered a Ted Talk on \u201cHappiness is a Paradigm Shift\u201d for TEDxBCIT and an Assertiveness Workshop for BCIT Nurses. She teaches Communication and Public Speaking Courses at Langara College and Vancouver School Board. Gwen has delivered keynotes and workshops for YWCA\u2019s Mentoring Programs, UBC Anthropology Students, SCWIST, Crofton House School, Vancouver Asian Heritage Society, Women in Film &amp; Television, Human Resources Management Association, Certified Management Accountant Association and Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce, to name a few.
