The School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is proud to\u00a0announce the launch of\u00a0two brand new undergraduate courses\u00a0starting in\u00a0January 2016<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0If you haven\u2019t filled your timetable yet, please give them consideration.<\/p>\n

SPPH 481a \u2013\u00a0Distributed Health Research Methods\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 ONLINE<\/p>\n

This is introductory overview of approaches to conducting health research. Students incrementally develop a Research Proposal.\u00a0\u00a0Hosted on UBC on-line Edge EdX for distance learning. Intended for students planning a career in medical\/health professions, \u00a0and\/or those applying to graduate programs.<\/p>\n

SPPH 481b \u2013\u00a0Public Health Ethics\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This course addresses ethical issues related to interventions by governments at local, provincial or national levels aimed at promoting public health. Central issues include ethical presuppositions embedded in the concept of public health itself, the extent to which governments may restrict individual liberties in order to promote public health, and ethical dimensions of the concept of public health risk. No philosophical background is required.<\/p>\n

We are also pleased to announce that the popular IHHS 408 is now SPPH 408 \u2013 Topics in Indigenous Health: A community based experience<\/strong>, and is scheduled to run Summer 2016. \u00a0Enrolment is limited and competitive.<\/p>\n

Finally, we would like to remind students that SPPH now offers several of the IHHS courses previously offered by the College of Health Disciplines.
