{"id":6461,"date":"2017-01-05T10:38:36","date_gmt":"2017-01-05T17:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsundergrads\/?p=6461"},"modified":"2017-01-05T10:38:36","modified_gmt":"2017-01-05T17:38:36","slug":"volunteer-for-lets-talk-science-teacher-partnership-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/lfsundergrads\/2017\/01\/05\/volunteer-for-lets-talk-science-teacher-partnership-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer for Let&#8217;s Talk Science Teacher Partnership Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>VOLUNTEER FOR LET&#8217;S TALK SCIENCE&#8217;S TEACHER PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (TPP)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TPP is the core of Let\u2019s Talk Science at UBC and is by far our most popular program for volunteers, teachers and students alike.<\/p>\n<p>As a volunteer you are paired with a teacher in a school and age group that is convenient for you and an age group you would like to work with.\u00a0 You go into the classroom to present fun, hands-on science activities for the kids!\u00a0 You can create your own activity, use our\u00a0 pre-assembled classroom activities (see here: ubclts.com\/activities)\u00a0 or you can contact a coordinator for ideas and help.\u00a0 Equipment is supplied by us!<\/p>\n<p>If you want you can arrange to visit the classroom with a friend, find a friend at the training sessions to pair with or you can request to be paired with an experienced volunteer (this will be arranged during training).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Project aims<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our aim is to show these kids how fantastic science is. We want to demonstrate that science is much more than just sitting in a lab with a white coat and a pipette and those scientists are awesome people like you!!\u00a0 (and maybe even encourage them to pursue science themselves after high school!)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Call for volunteers<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Who: <\/em><\/strong>Undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs and researchers!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Location:<\/em><\/strong> A school convenient for you in Vancouver or beyond!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>When: <\/em><\/strong>You arrange times and dates with your paired teacher that suit you both.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Volunteer Role<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 Present hands-on science activities to your classroom ~ 1 hour in length.
