(REVISED)\u00a0<\/span>APBI 222 Introduction to Horticulture<\/a> (3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Term 1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mon-Wed-Fri \u00a0\u00a0 10:00 – 11:00<\/u><\/p>\n Lab\u00a0 Wed \u00a012:00 \u2013 3:00<\/u><\/p>\n The cultivation of key temperate fruits, vegetables, greenhouse, ornamental and nursery crops in BC, integrated with scientific and practical aspects of their sustainable production and marketing.<\/p>\n Insects as food and feed is a 4-credit course. The course aims to provide an understanding of the benefits of entomophagy including health, environment and livelihood.\u00a0 The course will discuss the challenges encountered to develop insects as a new protein source for food and feed. The course will also include insect rearing methods, preparation and processing of insects and incorporating them into different dishes. Aspects of entomophagy are explored through student reviews of recent research articles and presentations to the class.<\/p>\n (REVISED)<\/span>\u00a0APBI 403 Soil Sampling, Analyses & Data Interpretation<\/a> (3) Term 1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fri\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 13:00 – 14:00 <\/u><\/p>\n Lab Tuesday 1 \u2013 4pm.<\/u><\/p>\n Field and laboratory analytical techniques in the chemical, biological and physical assessment of soils.<\/p>\n Pre-requisite: APBI 200<\/p>\n (NEW)<\/span> APBI 490-101 Agricultural Ethics and Public Policy (3) Term 1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tue-Thu\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 9:30 – 11:00<\/u><\/p>\n An introduction to ethical debates about modern agricultural practices for senior students.\u00a0 Agriculture was essential in the development of human civilization and continues to be essential for modern life.\u00a0 The practice of farming has also historically been associated with good morals and virtuous character.\u00a0 But as farming practices have changed to keep pace with the increased demands of a growing population, many of the practices of modern farming have become the subjects of intense public debate. Questions about the relationship between modern agriculture and the environment, animal welfare, and human health and nutrition have been discussed in numerous scholarly and popular publications.
