Let’s create our writing rubrics together!

In this lesson you will work with a small group to create a rubric for assessing writing.  The rubric your group creates will be used by our class this year, and other classes in following years for self and peer assessment of classroom writing.

You will use a wiki to create your writing rubric which means it will be a work in progress, that you will change and add to as you learn more about writing throughout the year.  Next year’s class will also use your rubric and add to it as well, in this way we will build our understandings of writing together!

Every group must follow each numbered step in this lesson plan.  Its is important for you to know that in the final step you will be responsible for completing three assessment rubrics, including a self-assessment, group assessment, and a final project assessment.  Your group may want to review the assessment rubrics under the “How Did You Do?” tab before you begin.  Your teacher will also be assessing your individual contributions as well as your group work and final product.

This lesson is meant to be about 75 minutes long.  In order to make sure your group is working efficiently on task you may want to follow the suggested time frames for each step, noted at the bottom of each page.
