Join us for this ONLINE live workshop on CINAHL, which is a key access to research literature for nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other allied health professions, and on Psycinfo, a major index to psychosocial aspects of health, covers efficient and effective searching by using subject and keyword searching, boolean operators, managing the results, getting the full-text, and saving searches and creating alerts.

After enduring six days of Internet “throttling” and “saturated pipes” resulting in sluggish access to online resources, IT staff from Health Shared Services BC have finally resolved the problem. EZProxy is now working again for UBCers @ St. Paul’s & Vancouver General Hospitals as well as other sites of Providence Health Care & Vancouver Coastal Health.
Many thanks to the UBC Library and HSSBC staff who lobbied for the restoration of acceptable service levels.

We have extended our trial accounts access on the Ebsco interface until May 1^st!  We currently purchase these resources on different platforms and are exploring the option of accessing this content through the Ebsco interface.

REFWORKS FOR THE SCIENCES – Monday, March 7th, 2011 at 10:00AM – 12:00PM Woodward Library Teaching Lab B25

RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool sponsored by the UBC Library and available free-of-charge to current UBC faculty, staff, and students.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create your own personal database in RefWorks by importing references from online resources such as Web of Science, Google Scholar, PubMed, Compendex and others. Then you’ll use RefWorks to add these citations to a paper and automatically format both in text references and the bibliography in a citation style of your choice.

Do you find yourself spending hours, usually in the dead of night, inserting in-line citations and producing bibliographies manually? If the answer’s yes and you’re thinking, “There’s got to be a better way,” then come to one of our Zotero or Refworks workshops.

Refworks and Zotero are both citation management tools that allow you to create and organize a personal library of citations, insert in-line citations into your term papers or theses, and then produce bibliographies automatically in the citation style of choice (Vancouver, APA, etc.). The two tools are very similar in functionality. The main difference is that Refworks is provided through a library subscription to UBC faculty, staff, students and alumni, while Zotero is free, open-source software.

At Woodward Library we’re hosting a number of noon-hour sessions to help make this part of your academic work easier and faster. You can register for (a) session(s) using the registration links below:

Since February 2009, HLWIKI Canada has had 1.3 million views. I find that number astonishing but it tells me that we are on the right path with the wiki’s development.

As many of you know, I have worked on the wiki since 2006 but increasingly since about 2008-2009 when the total content in the wiki doubled. In early 2011, HLWIKI Canada has just under 600 pages of content in three main areas: Health librarianship, Social media (web 2.0), and Collaboration 2.0. I welcome you to take at the range and depth of the content we offer.
