Unit 2 Reflections

In this unit, we started on our projects with and outline and progress report, as well as set up a LinkedIn profile. I especially enjoyed the LinkedIn assignment, since even though I’ve had one set up for some time now, I’ve never investigated the proper techniques and methods to set up an effective profile. The project I think will be challenging, since it’s a relatively large assignment, but with the step-wise fashion we are approaching it, I think it will be manageable. I am excited about the topic I am writing on (continuous integration) since it is a topic I have been working with for several months, and this project will give me to chance to write down and define this very important topic, and perhaps even convince some faculty to add the topic to the course syllabus for CS classes.

In regard to the peer review, I have organized some topics below:

Have you been surprised by what you have read in your colleague’s work?

Reading other students’ blogs has given me tips on improving my own writing. It’s been very useful to read through other student’s work so far. The open blog format of this course, where we can read each other’s work, is very useful to me. It makes it easy for me to gauge my own writing relative to other’s, and it also makes it easy to give feedback through peer reviews since we can find their documents quickly.

Consider the task of peer reviewing; what did you find most challenging about completing the peer reviews?

It’s been very pleasant to read through other people’s blogs. The quality of writing is high, so it’s not difficult to read.

What do you think was the most helpful feedback you were able to provide in your reviews?

For the LinkedIn review, I think I was able to provide helpful feedback regarding grammar and some tips on how to set up a good profile. It was very helpful reading my teammate Joanne’s report on setting up a profile, since it gave me a starting point for reviewing Jasmine’s profile.

What was the most helpful feedback you have received?

Jasmine gave me good feedback on changing my profile photo so that it is more clear. I will be changing my profile as soon as I can get one.

How do you think peer reviewing has affected your view of your writing, of your peers writing?

I think the process in the context of the LinkedIn profiles is fair and helpful.  I especially like getting the chance to analyze someone else’s assignment, since it gives me a chance to see how I could possibly improve my own work.
